The Sierra de Guara, Nature and Culture
Located on the southern side of the Spanish Pyrenees, the Sierra de Guara was officially declared a Natural Park in
1990. Naturalists consider it one of the most important natural reserves in Europe.
Ornithologists or neophyte bird watchers can observe a great variety of birds of prey and vultures some of which are
endangered species. This includes the Egyptian vulture(6 pairs have been taken into census here when only a fifty
pairs live in Europe) and 11 Royal eagles pairs. Lammergeiers or Bearded Vultures, Peregrine Falcons, Circaetus,
and numerous colonies of Griffin vultures are part of what can be seen in nature, around here, daily.
The aquatic and rupicolous environments as well contain a wide variety of flora and wildlife endemic species.
